    The Process

    1
    On-site inspection and assessment
Every gutter guard installation starts with an on-site assessment. We inspect the roof, gutters and surrounding environment to understand roof design, gutter profile, leaf load and access requirements.
    2
    Clear and honest recommendations
Based on the assessment, we explain whether gutter guard is suitable for your property and which system will work best. If gutter guard is not the right solution, we will tell you.
    3
    Thorough gutter cleaning

Before every installation we do a thorough gutter clean to restore proper water flow and ensure all surfaces are suitably prepared for fixing the recommended gutter guard system in place.

    4
    Professional installation
Gutter guard is installed using correct fixing methods and attention to detail. We focus on secure installation and long-term durability rather than speed or shortcuts.

    Why install gutter guard?

Gutter guard protects homes and commercial buildings by covering gutters and roof valleys with high-quality aluminium mesh that prevents blockages while allowing rainwater to flow freely. Our systems are designed to:

    • Keep out leaves, debris, pests and vermin
    • Reduce the need for regular gutter cleaning
    • Minimise the risk of water damage to your home
    • Improve bushfire protection with fire-rated mesh
    • Help harvest cleaner rainwater
    • Match your roof with a wide range of colour options

    Long-term gutter protection installed properly

Illawarra Maintenance Group specialises in the supply and installation of high quality gutter guard systems, prioritising secure fixing methods and careful installation to ensure the system performs as intended over time. This approach allows us to confidently back our work with a 20-year workmanship warranty.

We install Karben Guard®, an Australian-owned gutter protection system for metal and tile roofs, made and supplied by Karben Industries in Wyong, NSW. The aluminium mesh is CSIRO tested to AS 3959-2018, suitable as gutter guard at every Bushfire Attack Level, and backed by a 15-year product warranty. Where needed, we also fit Leaf Stopper’s award-winning, patented EasyAc access covers. Our quality fixing systems and use of genuine COLORBOND® steel wherever suitable ensure durability in all Australian conditions.

Expert gutter protection built on integrity and trust

Just as important as the installation itself is honest advice. While gutter guard can be an excellent long-term solution for many homes, it is not suitable in every situation. If we believe another approach would deliver a better outcome, we will advise accordingly. Our focus is on protecting your home and reducing ongoing maintenance, not selling a service that is unnecessary.

Gutter guard installation is often part of a broader approach to exterior maintenance, and we are able to coordinate this service alongside other property maintenance work where appropriate. However, our core expertise remains gutter guard supply and installation, delivered to a professional standard with long-term reliability in mind.

Gutter guard for different roof types

With over 15 years of trade experience, we understand that gutter guard is not a one-size-fits-all solution. The effectiveness of any system depends on factors such as roof type, pitch, gutter type, surrounding vegetation and local environmental conditions. That is why every installation begins with a detailed on-site assessment rather than assumptions or standardised quotes.

Our role is to recommend and install gutter guard systems that are genuinely suited to the property. We supply gutter guard tailored for a variety of roof types and applications including both metal and tiled roofs, and use genuine Colorbond steel wherever possible.

    Frequently Asked Questions

Most installs work out at around $35 per metre, supplied and installed, with a full gutter clean included first. A typical house has 60–70 metres of gutter, so most homes land between about $2,100 and $2,500. Two-storey access, tiled roofs, valleys, box gutters and ember-rated mesh can move the price up or down. We give you a fixed written quote after a free measure, with no deposit required.

The total metres of gutter and valley, roof type (tile takes longer than metal), roof height and pitch, how many valleys and box gutters there are, the mesh you choose and the condition of the gutters. A single-storey metal roof with clear access sits at the lower end; a steep two-storey tiled roof with several valleys sits higher.

For most homes near trees, yes. Most leafy properties need their gutters cleaned once or twice a year, and gutter guard largely removes that cost and the risk of climbing a ladder. It also keeps birds, rats and possums out of the roof line and leaves out of your water tank. If your property has no trees nearby, we’ll tell you honestly that you may not need it.

We install Karben Guard®, an Australian-owned system made and supplied by Karben Industries in Wyong, NSW. It is CSIRO-tested, powder-coated aluminium mesh in a choice of hole sizes: 3.5 mm standard, 3.5 mm heavy duty, and 1.9 mm woven for ember protection and finer debris. We recommend the right mesh for your roof and trees at the quote.

Aluminium is non-combustible, won’t go brittle in the sun, and carries a longer warranty: Karben’s aluminium mesh has a 15-year product warranty versus 10 years for its poly mesh. Plastic mesh isn’t tested to the bushfire standard, so it isn’t suitable as gutter guard in bushfire-prone areas. That’s why we only install aluminium mesh.

No mesh is 100% — anyone promising that is overselling. Our mesh stops leaves, twigs, gumnuts and animals. Very fine material like pollen, seed husks and dust can pass through, and most of it flushes out with the next rain.

Very little. We suggest a quick look once a year and, if needed, hosing through the mesh to rinse out fine material. There’s no need to remove it. Homes under heavy tree cover may need leaves brushed off the mesh occasionally.

Mostly no. The mesh is fitted on a “ski slope” angle from the gutter up onto the roof, so leaves slide or blow off rather than settling. Wet leaves can sit for a short time until they dry and the wind clears them.

No. Water passes straight through the mesh into the gutter, and your tank water stays cleaner because leaves and droppings are kept out. In extreme downpours gutters can overflow with or without mesh — that’s how gutters are designed to cope.

Yes. Once fitted, the mesh seals the gap between the gutter and the roof sheets or tiles, which is the main way birds and vermin get into roof spaces. If animals are getting in elsewhere, such as under solar panels or through downpipes, we can address that too.

Concrete and terracotta tile, corrugated, Trimdek, Klip-Lok and other metal profiles, plus commercial and strata buildings. We also cover valleys and box gutters. On tile roofs the mesh tucks under the second row of tiles; on metal roofs it’s fixed with colour-matched trim and screws.

Yes. The mesh and trim come in the COLORBOND® colour range — about 27 colours including Monument, Surfmist, Woodland Grey, Basalt and Shale Grey — plus mill finish and Zincalume. We’ll bring samples so you can match it on site.

No. Aluminium mesh is compatible with COLORBOND® and Zincalume® roofing, and we fix it without drilling tiles. We avoid stainless steel mesh in contact with coated steel roofs because the two metals can react and cause corrosion.

Yes, every time, and it’s included in the price. We clear out all leaves, sludge and silt, check the downpipes are flowing, and let you know about any rust or damage we find before the mesh goes on.

A 15-year product warranty on the Karben Guard® aluminium mesh and our own 20-year workmanship warranty. You receive a written warranty certificate, and it stays with the house if you sell.

Most single-storey homes are done in one day, including the gutter clean. Larger, two-storey or complex roofs can take two days. We’ll give you a time frame with your quote.

No, as long as we can get to all sides of the house. We’ll send you drone photos when the job is finished so you can see the result without climbing up.

Yes. We regularly remove cheap or poorly fitted mesh, clean out what’s built up underneath and install Karben Guard® properly. See our Wombarra project for an example.

You can buy DIY kits, but the job is done at the roof edge and the fixing details are what make mesh last. Poorly fixed mesh lifts in wind, lets animals in and comes with no workmanship warranty. Our install includes the clean, the right mesh and a 20-year workmanship warranty.

No deposit is required. You pay once the job is finished and you’re happy with it.

Yes. The Australian Standard for building in bushfire-prone areas, AS 3959-2018, requires gutter and valley leaf guards to be non-combustible. Karben Guard® aluminium mesh has been CSIRO tested, with a Spread of Flame Index of 0 under AS/NZS 1530.3. That allows it to be used as gutter guard at every Bushfire Attack Level (BAL-12.5 through to BAL-FZ).

It won’t catch fire or spread flame. It’s powder-coated aluminium with a tested Spread of Flame Index of 0. Its main job in a fire is keeping dry leaves out of the gutter, where embers would otherwise ignite them.

Gutter guard covers gutters and valleys and must be non-combustible; the standard sets no hole size for it. Ember guard covers openings such as vents, weep holes and roof cavities, and must have holes no larger than 2 mm. Our 1.9 mm woven mesh meets that limit.

BAL (Bushfire Attack Level) rates how exposed a building is to embers, heat and flame, from BAL-LOW up to BAL-FZ (Flame Zone). New builds and renovations in bushfire-prone land get a BAL from a bushfire assessment, usually through council or your builder. If you know your BAL, tell us at the quote.

For gutter guard, any of our aluminium meshes is suitable at all BALs. Where ember guard is required, 1.9 mm woven aluminium is suitable up to BAL-29. At BAL-40 and BAL-FZ the standard requires steel or bronze for ember guards, so we use Karben’s 1.9 mm stainless steel ember mesh, fitted so it doesn’t touch coated-steel roofing.

Yes. We can supply Karben’s CSIRO test documentation for the mesh we install and email it to your builder or certifier.

    Our Testimonials

I highly recommend Mathew, the workmanship was exceptional, very professional and everything was left neat and tidy. He explained how he approached the job and found a problem with the back gutter which took longer than expected but stuck by his quote. He is an absolute professional and gentleman.

    Stephen James

Matt did a great job cleaning our gutters and doing a full replacement of our gutter guards which had been installed incorrectly. He also treated the lichen on our roof and dealt with a wasp nest complementary. He was friendly, professional and really easy to deal with. We're really happy with the work he did.

    Lisa Francis

I had been looking for a solution to birds gaining access to the inside of my roof from the gutters. After some messages and photos with Mathew we hashed out a solution and got a quote. Really great job done here and I would recommend Mathew if you have a similar issue with birds or leaves. He got his drone up and was able to really show me the awesome work he did.

    Ethan Jones

We have just had our box gutter and gutters thoroughly cleaned by Matt. He also provided drone photos and detected a rusted hole and repaired it until we were able to call a roofer. The service was prompt and affordable. We would recommend their services.

    Valerie Sherrell

I had the best experience. They are so professional, organised, honest and knowledgeable. Mathew did an incredible job with cleaning my gutters. Would definitely recommend.

    Noura
